New Color

I am still experimenting with color combinations. As most of us know the paint manufacturers have available every color under the sun for purchase. There are literally hundreds of colors with hundreds of names, many I can't pronounce. I use three to five colors black and white being two on most of my paintings. I am trying different combinations to see what results I can achieve. I hope you like. If you don't give me some feed back and/ or suggestions.

The Stock Pond

A new color palette doing away with black and switching from ultramarine blue to cobalt blue. This is a scene is from Gary and Delores Hinton's Ranch in Glen Cove, Texas. Beautiful place and area with lots of great scenery for inspiration and being lazy.

The Office Break

I started this painting with the intent of it being a finished piece; but as I labored over it I discovered that I didn't do a very good job of pre-planning. As I continued to work I decided to use it as a study for a larger piece. Originally this was 18"x24" but I realize it had some dead space in it so I cropped it out. I am in the process of redrawing and hopefully doing a better job of "planning" on the new piece.

I am thankful that I have been lent this gift of being artistic because I really enjoy ever aspect of it. But, I admit that it is very frustrating at times. I like so many styles and so many subjects that sometimes I feel that I am all over the place when I should focus on one area and get good at it. I wonder if I ever will.

The Crick

I recall being a young boy and going fishin' with my grandpa at the "Crick." I thought for the longest that was the proper name until moving to California and discovering that several things I thought were proper was improper and even hilarious to others.

I'm so thankful that I don't have to work in the hayfield anymore. When I was a kid that was a yearly ritual cutting hay, putting it on the wagon and then stacking it in the barn. Working the hay field and picking cotton are two things that would be on the list of punishments in hell.

This place is in New Mexico on the grand highway Route 66. I was headed to Santa Fe by way of Interstate and decided get off and see some sights. After I painted this I have wished many times that I would have been more adventurous and checked it out more.

This painting is from a photograph taken while in New Mexico near Ghost Ranch. The painting is more posterized than what I normally produce. I don't really know why I went in this direction it just sort of developed that way and I ran with it. I'm not sure if I will continue in this way but I do think this conveys the scene well.

Fence Beauty

This is a different subject for me. When I began to get serious about painting I would look for hours at other artist work and ponder how they arrived at deciding on the subject they painted. I like still lifes and flowers but it’s not one of the things that has ever been at the top of my list.

This is from my daughter’s back yard in Fort Worth and when I saw it I knew this was a painting waiting to happen.

Evening Shade

This started from a drawing I had in my sketch book. I don't remember if I made it up, because I do make up a lot of my landscapes, or if it came from something I had seen. But, nevertheless I believe it came out well.

I love landscape painting and paintings of landscapes. They are chanllenging for me and a constant source of beauty. This painting was inspired from a recent trip that I made to the hill country in Texas. This was a creek running along the side of the highway near Fredricksburg.
